Walt Laughlin is an experienced subject matter mortgage expert for residential mortgage topics including loan organization, production management, loan officer compensation, regulatory compliance, underwriting, appraisal standards, operational risk assessment,  and fair/affordable housing standards. Laughlin lives in Mobile, Alabama and can be available for in house counsel, defendant or plaintiff testimony and depositions on a fee basis.

Laughlin has over forty years total direct experience in mortgage banking for retail, wholesale, correspondent lending and consumer direct channels of mortgage banking. He began his career working for his family mortgage and real estate company before joining Jackson Company / SouthTrust Bank Mortgage in Birmingham, AL as a Senior Loan Officer and Staff Appraiser.

Laughlin's career progressed as 10 state Regional First Vice President for BancBoston Mortgage, President & CEO of Compass Bank Mortgage, President of Superior Mortgage Resources and Regional Vice President of Synovus Bank Mortgage. 

Walt Laughlin worked as State of Mississippi Director at Fannie Mae with emphasis on affordable housing and community development. He also served as Lead Director for the Gulf States Region maintaining strategic lender relationships. 

Laughlin is a graduate of The School of Mortgage Banking and has been awarded the professional designations of Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) and Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) - all of which are administered by The Mortgage Bankers Association of America - Washington, DC.

Walt Laughlin is a two term Past President of The Mortgage Bankers Association of Alabama and was a founding Director of the Mortgage Brokers Association of Alabama. For over 40 years Laughlin has been an active member and  national committee participant with the Mortgage Bankers Association of America,  The Society of Certified Mortgage Bankers (CMB), and The National Association of Mortgage Brokers.
